Club Descriptions

Many of our clubs are teacher-sponsored, but student-run. Please see below to read about the many options for current clubs at our school. If you're interested in or need more information on a club please speak to the listed advisor(s). If you have an idea for a club you want to start, please speak with administration for an application to start a new club at NDA!

Art Club

Club members will work on their artistic skills as a group to produce works of art.  They will encourage each other to use other medians than they might typically use and will learn the names and background for different art methods.

Board Game Club

We play Board Games!

Climbing Interest Club

Climbing Club is an interest club where students organize off-campus meet-ups to climb.

Advisor: Ms. Pruett

Combat Robotics

Students create their own "battle bot" using 3D-printed bodies. Students also add all the electronics to their robots to make them operate with remote controls. Competitions are held around the region that students may participate in once their robots are completed.

Creative Writing Club

Writing workshops, writing tips + constructive criticism, other writing activities, topics chosen by members (such as writing style). Club leader: Chaos Storm

Crochet Club

Students crochet scarves, hats, and child blankets to donate and can earn service hours. Beginners welcome!

Debate

Debate of interesting (non-political) topics

Deep Space Club N.E.R.D.S (Nesbitt Engineers Regarding Deep Space!)

Deep Space clubs works with Destination Space to learn basic skills like soldering, electronics and data analysis. They have been involved in work with the NASA Artemis 1 mission, NASA TechRise, as well as Summer Space Camp at UNCA and individual electronics and rocketry projects.

Envirothon

Competition club in groups of 5 studying Soils, Aquatics, Wildlife, Forestry, and Current Environmental issues

Film Club

Film club is a student-run club where students share their enthusiasm for all things cinema.

Girl Up

Girl Up is a non-profit organization that helps girls become leaders and advocates for gender equality. Girl Up's mission is to help girls and women in developing countries have equal opportunities for education, health, and social and economic opportunities.

GSA

GSA is a student-run club that aims to create a safe, welcoming, and accepting school environment for all youth, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Health Occupation Students of American-HOSA

Students compete in events related to careers with Medicine and Healthcare

Latin and Classical Languages Club

Discussing and learning Latin and its history, its relation to other languages, and other similar topics.

Math Club

Math club is for students who have a love of math, puzzles, reasoning, and the like. Students meet with their peers to work engaging puzzles and problems that require a wide range of math skills and critical thinking skills, not just those from one specific course. Students who are super interested in competing in math competitions can continue their practice after school to do specific preparation.

Multicultural Club

A space for students from different cultural / ethnic backgrounds to discuss and celebrate different cultures.

A space for neurodiverse students to share experiences and offer support and advocacy.

Science Research Association

Club that focuses on completing a science research project to present at local and regional science fairs.

Spanish

Savannah Reinhardt and some experienced Spanish students are offering "tutoring" sessions for others since we do not have a teacher.

Days and Time may flex a little since I have Smart Lunch at the same time. Students are meeting in Lanahan's classroom.

Student Council

The aim of the Student Council is to work in partnership with the administration, staff, parents, and students for the benefit of the whole school community. The Student Council will undertake a program of activities, which will support the school. In planning activities the Student Council will consult with the liaison teachers and administration (as needed). Each year the student body will elect two class representatives for each grade level and a President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer for the study body. Non-elected members of the study body are eligible to serve on sub-committees, which will be formed and announced as needed.

Technology Student Association-TSA

The Technology Student Association (TSA) is a national non-profit career and technical student organization (CTSO) of middle and high school students engaged in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Today, over 300,000 students participate in TSA’s competitions, intra-curricular activities, leadership opportunities, and community service.

TTRPG Club

Students gather to discuss and learn about playing TableTop Role Playing Games.

Advisor: Mr. Kayler

VOY (Volunteer Organization for Youth)

VOY works with various community organizations planning and implementing volunteer opportunities for NDA students. In school work often involves labelling blankets for Project Linus. After school opportunities include work with Asheville Greenworks, Manna foodbank, Hearts with Hands, Eblen Charities, ABCCM, Homeward Bound etc.

Yearbook

Students produce the school yearbook by taking pictures, writing copy, and completing pages of the annual.

Youth Commission International (YCI)

Youth Commission International (YCI) is a non-profit, non-denominational, and non-political organization that helps middle and high school students start and maintain Christian clubs at their schools. YCI's mission is to impact school campuses for Christ through students and the community. This is a student led club.
