Our Men’s Cross Country and Men’s Soccer teams had phenomenal fall seasons! Both teams rode a wave of victories to end their season as 2A state champions!
“This season was an outstanding example of how chemistry between players on and off the field is what makes a team truly great,” said Soccer Team Captain Liam Gildner. “For me personally, it felt like the players on the team were so in tune with each other; we were never seen without a teammate by our side. Accomplishing something never done before was something I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”
Among the celebrations that followed, both teams were recognized at December's Black Mountain Town Council Meeting. A proclamation was made in honor of these historic wins.
“This was truly an amazing experience for me,” said Gildner. “From the fan send-off in town to the never ceasing support of the community both in the school and in the community, it was so special to me as well as my family and teammates.”
Congratulations to both teams! The Black Mountain Town Council Proclamation is below:
WHEREAS, the citizens of the Town of Black Mountain appreciate the talent and athletic abilities of the Owen High School teams and acknowledge the historic athletic season for Owen High School; and
WHEREAS, by its extraordinary efforts, the dynamic Owen High School Men’s Varsity Soccer Team, under the direction of head coach Trei Morrison, ended their 2022 season as the 2A State Soccer Champions; and
WHEREAS, the talented Men’s Cross Country Team completed their season as 2A State Cross Country Champions under the direction of head coach Bob Sadlemire; and
WHEREAS, the Town does wish to recognize and commend the excellent performance, dedication, and commitment of these young men, along with their coaching staff as they have proven to be a source of admiration and inspiration to the citizens of Black Mountain.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT PROCLAIMED that I, Mayor Larry B. Harris, and the Town Council of the Town of Black Mountain in honor of the team spirit and winning determination, congratulate Owen High School Men’s Varsity Soccer Team and The Owen High School Men’s Cross Country Team for an outstanding season! PROCLAIMED this 12th day of December 2022.
Also at Monday's meeting, Dr. Rob Jackson introduced himself to the town council and expressed gratitude for their ongoing support of our school system.
