Foundation Board Members

The Buncombe County Schools Foundation (BCSF) celebrated local educators with a special event on May 7, 2024, held at the scenic North Carolina Governor's Western Residence, which provided a picturesque backdrop for the occasion.

The celebration honored community partners, along with teachers, principals, and other Buncombe County Schools (BCS) staff for their dedication and service to education.

Guests were treated to an assortment of culinary delights prepared by the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) from Erwin High School. Additionally the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) from A.C. Reynolds High School played a vital role in managing parking logistics.

“The support from our students from Erwin High’s FCCLA and A.C. Reynolds High School’s JROTC was outstanding,” said BCSF Director Christy Cheek. “Their involvement not only made our event run smoothly but also highlighted the exceptional capabilities of our students.”

The Buncombe County Schools Foundation, which organized the event, focuses on providing scholarships and grants to enhance the educational experiences and opportunities for students and staff within the district. This celebration served as a platform to showcase the impacts of these efforts and to foster further community support for the foundation’s initiatives.

“The Education Celebration is a testament to the power of community and the remarkable impact of our educators,” Cheek added. “We are here to celebrate and support the individuals who dedicate their lives to educating our future generations.”

The highlight of the evening was the recognition of the district’s Teachers of the Year, the Principal of the Year, and winners of various educational grants. These accolades spotlight individuals and groups who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and greatness in their roles.

The foundation’s ongoing commitment to educational excellence and support was evident throughout the evening, reinforcing the community’s appreciation for those at the forefront of education in Buncombe County.

The event also honored outstanding BCS educators, including Principal of the Year, Chip Cody of Clyde A. Erwin High School, and Teacher of the Year finalists from each BCS district:
