Owen Students at the NC Science and Engineering Fair at NCState
Charles D. Owen High School students participated in a grant from the Army Educational Outreach Program- AEOP. They met one Saturday a month and a few evenings after school to conduct research on topics and areas of interest. Mr. Smith, Mr. James and Dr. Bailey assisted these students with their research and their competition presentations.
The following projects were completed this year, they are listed with their current Honors and Awards:
Riley Johnson (12th Grade) Designing an Activated Carbon Filter to Reduce Water Contamination from Fire Water Runoff
This project is a GRAND AWARD winner at the NCSEF and was picked to represent NC at the International Science and Engineering Fair in Dallas, Texas in May. This is a historic first for any project from the Western Regional and also a first for Buncombe County Schools.

2nd in the State Earth and Environmental Science NCSEF-NCSU Competition
3rd in the Southern Regional NJHS chosen to go to the National NJHS in Norfolk, Virginia in April.

Nominated for GENIUS OLYMPIAD 2023 in New York for June one of ten projects that the NC Science and Engineering Fair is paying the registration fee still have to be selected to participate will know by April 15th
