American History--
It's all about where we came from..
My
name is Ms. Yurkovich, and I am very pleased to
teach AP US History as well as American History I at Reynolds.
My education was both in NC and OH. I was raised in Cullowhee, traveled to Oberlin College in
OH where I earned a degree in US History, and then came back to NC to
attend Wake Forest where I received my teaching certification.
I
began teaching in the cool green mountains of WNC at TCR where I taught
Civics and AP US History. I transferred to ACR to work closer to
home and be nearer to my husband, Mr. Kromer, Media Coordinator. Since
working here I have taught a little bit of everything, from World to
American History, from standard to AP classes, with even a little
Psychology on the side. I also earned my National Board Certification
in Social Studies-History, a challenging experience that has helped me
reflect on the art of teaching.
When
not being a teacher, I am a wife, a mother of two fine kids, a
gardener, a cook, a yoga practitioner, a hiker, an avid reader, and
well, often pretty tired. Sometimes those books just don't get read.
But through it all I am always learning--something I hope my students will aspire to do all their lives as well.
