Welcome
to the Martin L. Nesbitt Discovery Academy TSA chapter page! TSA is an
extracurricular yet profoundly beneficial organization for our students
that allows them to further pursue their own interests in STEM fields.
Students will be given opportunities to take their STEm learning to the
next level through engaging weekly activities held after school on
various days from any number of Discovery Academy Advisors. Central to
TSA are numerous competitive events, as well as opportunities for
building leadership skills, and the experience is an advantage on higher
education applications!
WEEKLY SCHEDULE
TSA will meet often
throughout the year after school on various days depending on TSA
advisor schedules. This schedule will be available on the TSA Canvas
course. Every student has access to this calendar. They can also add
parent emails (note: we are testing this feature now. I can only
directly add parents as observers to Canvas courses who have bcs email
addresses).
The reason we have some flexible time within are schedule is as follows:
#1. Providing only
ONE day a week for club time is a disservice to students who cannot
attend on that day (lots of complaints about that last year).
#2. Allowing
advisors to run activities and events on days that work for them during
the week allows multiple days during the week TSA members can be active,
and provides more opportunities for vareties of activities.
#3 Gives parent volunteers some flexible options to get involved. (We would love to begin to see this happening)
#4 Guests from the Community or Sponsors have more options as well.
The key to this working is of Students and Parents keep an eye on both the Informational email, and the Canvas Calendar.
Please feel free to email me with questions and concerns about this scheduling.
TSA LEADERSHIP
We
will certainly have students functioning in leadership positions during
their Senior year: President, Vice President, Seargant At Arms,
Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter. And Prospective Officer Internships 10th
and 11th grade years. We NEED parent support, and will be creating a
TSA Parent's committee, so I would love to hear from parents who can get
involved! Please email me about any questions you may have. steven.bachmeyer@bcsemail.org

I would like students start
thinking about 2 events they would be interested in: 1 that involves
producing a working product (Flight/Glider, Video Game, etc.), and 1
event that involves some research and prep for public presentation (i.e.
career prep, debate, etc.). Remember many events require teamwork.
