Nesbitt Discovery Academy students have been busy giving back to the community while learning.

The assignment for all 100 students was to create a blacktop playground for Emma Elementary that consisted of a double circle, alphabet and number grids. The winning team came up with a creative design that will captivate young minds as well as encourage creativity and learning during play. Two of our students on the winning team actually attended Emma Elementary which made this a project that was close to their hearts.

Miriam Salzar-Espinoza told News 13, "I really wanted to scream out cause well it's my school I still feel like I'm at home. I really love the teachers here so it's like a big part of me," Miriam said.

The Peaceful Playground Project is being funded through a 3-year federal grant.
