Teacher Bio

History--
Where we came from is important...kyurk

My name is Ms. Yurkovich, and I am very excited to teach HIS 11/112, AP World History, World History and the new Economics and Personal Finance (EPF) course at NDA this year!  I am faculty adviser for the Political Discussion Club and yearbook advisor.

My education was both in NC and OH.  I was raised in Cullowhee, traveled to Oberlin College  in OH where I earned a degree in US History, and then came back to NC to attend Wake Forest where I received my teaching certification.  I recently completed my Master's degree in Education with a concentration in US history at Western Carolina University.

I have taught in the cool green mountains of WNC at TCR and ACR. Now, I am very excited to teach at NDA, a school I have watched build and grow over the last several years and that both our children have attended as well.  I have taught just about every NC social studies course and have facilitated classes at all levels from inclusion to AP; I also earned my National Board Certification in Social Studies-History, a challenge that has helped me reflect on the art of teaching.

When not being a teacher, I am a wife, a mother of two fine kids, a gardener, a cook, a yoga practitioner, a hiker, an avid reader, and well, often pretty tired.  Sometimes those books just don't get read. But through it all I am always learning--something I hope my students will aspire to do all their lives as well.
