Art by B. Buchanan

As a proud graduate of AC Reynolds High School, I am thrilled to once again be living in the Asheville area and now working at a Buncombe County High School.  I got my English degree and my Masters in Teaching at UNC Chapel Hill and then taught in Durham for 4 years before moving back to the mountains.  This is now my second year at NDA and my 6th year teaching.

I genuinely LOVE what I get to do every day as an English teacher: discuss great stories and push students to think deeply about the power of words.  My primary goal in the classroom is to EMPOWER students by helping them to become more confident readers and writers, ready to navigate the complexities of the world and participate in conversations about big issues.  I am also passionate about using narrative to open up new "windows on the world" for students, introducing them - through literature - to people, places, and perspectives with which they might not otherwise get to interact.

I'm excited to get to know more members of this awesome school community this year!
