Teacher Bio
Welcome to my Classroom
Mr. Paul Irvin, Honors U.S. History II & Honors Civics Teacher

Paul Irvin

I was born in Maryland and raised in Washington, D.C.. In addition to teaching high school for over 12 years, I've worked as a firefighter and as a TV news director, both in Washington, D.C.. During my TV news career, I was fortunate to have won two Emmy Awards. I earned my undergraduate degree in Secondary Education/Social Studies and M.Ed (adolescent behavior), both at the College of Education, University of Maryland.

I'm currently working on National Board Certification and expect to complete my studies in Spring 2017.

I'm married, have three daughters, and live in Asheville. I'm an avid boater -- power and sail, and have raced sailboats, having won the prestigious Governor's Cup a few years ago. In my spare time, I enjoy watching my youngest play softball, playing with our two cats and pug, practicing photography, and listening to a wide and diverse collection of music.
I'm thrilled to be returning for my second year at Martin L. Nesbitt Discovery Academy Team. I have a passion for teaching and love life's connections to history. I look forward to another great year teaching U.S. History and Civics!
