Meet Mrs. Evans...
for the syllabus, resources and more!
“Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.” Those words by Socrates inspire how I hope to touch young minds; each day is a new day waiting for fresh discoveries and possibilities to unfold.
This is my 14th year in education. I have a Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary English as well as extensive training in the Orton-Gillingham approach to language. Prior to joining the Nesbitt Discovery Academy, I directed a writing center and taught high level English in the rigorous International Baccalaureate Diploma Program to students at Gems World Academy in Dubai. Before moving to Dubai, I taught at Carolina Day School’s Key School Division for a decade.
Besides teaching, I bring a background enriched by fourteen years of television journalism experience in New Orleans, Louisiana and Pensacola, Florida.
Along with my husband and two children, I love to cook, garden, camp, hike, and explore the mountains of Western North Carolina.
It is absolutely thrilling to be part of this school, which promises exciting discoveries ahead!
